The Concept of Pairs in IxChariot
IxChariot tests use endpoints (unobtrusive software agents) installed at the source and destination points of a test. An IxChariot traffic pair is the two endpoints needed for one traffic session. For example, when simulating a client server test session, the IxChariot console will assign the client machine and the server machine as test participants. Each machine will have an endpoint installed -- hence a pair of endpoints. IxChariot’s documentation also refers to a pair of endpoints as an endpoint pair.
NOTE: IxChariot can assign multiple test endpoints to a single IP address. In other words, it is not necessary have 20 individual PC's in order to construct a test using 10 endpoint pairs. For example, you can run 10 tests between only two PCs by establishing 10 endpoints on each PC.
Pair Counts
IxChariot's pair count describes both the number of simultaneous traffic sessions in a test, and the size of the license purchased. IxChariot licenses come in various pair count – a 10-pair license, 50-pair license, and so on. An IxChariot test consists of one to n pairs, where n is the number of designated licenses.
NOTE: Regardless of whether a test is unicast or multicast, it requires at least one endpoint pair. In multicast scenarios (one transmitting endpoint to multiple receiving endpoints) the licensed pair count must equal the number of receiving endpoints.
