"We are using IxChariot to generate traffic across the NASA centers such as Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX, Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama and Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, CA. The goal of the traffic generation and the subsequent analyses of the throughput, latency and jitter is to characterize the NASA's dedicated backbone called NISN. This characterization is important because we are running real-time distributed discrete event simulations across these NASA centers and the link characteristics between each node needs to be accounted in the simulation modeling. We are satisfied with the multi-platform support of the IxChariot, it's centralized architecture to administer the tests and its ease of use.

"Hello to all! IxChariot has been a relief for our company. We've been deploying a PLC (Powerline Communications) Access Network in a noisy environment in Guatemala City... this is the same technology used in Home-plugs but different, since it's intended to be used for giving access for lots of customers. In 2006 we purchased our first Ixia product, it was a 50 pair IxChariot license to be able to test up 25 simultaneous VoIP calls. We loved all the information IxChariot gave us on every test we ran: Jitter, One-Way Delay, Packet-Loss, MOS... We can say IxChariot is really the reason why we've made significant progress in deploying and fully understanding PLC technology. Afterwards, in 2007, we upgraded our license to 200 pairs so we could test more simultaneous traffic. It not only allowed us to adjust network latency and jitter parameters, but to our surprise it helped us discover a very critical problem we had in our network, a problem we hadn't noticed: Sudden physical bandwidth loss!!!
We were puzzled and it was critical, since PLC is an access technology negatively affected by noise. The thing went like this: IxChariot detected sudden packet losses in some segments of our network that negatively affected voice quality and, in general, affected throughput performance. We urged our best field technicians to go and try to find the issue by checking a pair of electricity poles we selected based on the information IxChariot gave us. In the end we, indeed, found that some signal coupling units were generating random noise, without any pattern!
I'm sure we still would have this problem IF NOT for IxChariot!
We were doing routine tests and found something very critical for our business! I mean, those packet losses were nearly impossible to find but IxChariot did, and our network performance improved a lot, not to mention we double checked for the same problem in the rest of our physical network. Since then we've been using the same 200 pair license for testing of new PLC equipment or routine maintenances. IxChariot really earned a place in our PLC NOC! And is a must to learn for any new engineer in our company. :) Network Engineer PLC Ventures Guatemala city."
Network Product Testing
Tellabs

"Our team in Tellabs is involved in Fiber to the Premise ONT system validation. Our ONTs have been deployed to more than 2 million households in the U.S. alone. For the testing of all supported data services on the ONTs, including Ethernet, MoCA and VDSL/VDSL2, we've always rely on the IXIA IxChariot to validate all layer 4 to layer 7 protocol testing. The IxChariot provides a realistic performance benchmark for the products under test. We find this extremely valuable when validating upper layer data throughput. When we see good data throughput numbers from the IxChariot when tested against our ONTs, we are then comfortable that our customers will always be able to surf the web at the provisioned rate. IxChariot data throughput testing has been a part of the lab exit release criteria."

"IxChariot has proven to be quite successful for us. We currently use almost 60 licenses for generating streams of traffic to test our hardware and drivers. The product response team has also been a pleasure to work with."

"As you know, most customers use IxChariot for testing throughput and latency of their product. We also test throughput using IxChariot. But, one of the best usage of IxChariot is its P2P scripts such as Bit Torrant, Kazaa and EDonkey scripts. To test such applications, it requires complex setup, dedicated computers (your computer is at risk when such applications are installed), and manual testing. With P2P scripts in IxChariot, it takes only few minutes to verify these downloads compared to few days when using PCs. I found this very useful when testing our DSL Router's netfilter functionality."
WiFi Testing & Automation

"802.11 WIFI test automation using IxChariot. Through the use of IxChariot’s command line utilities, we have been able to automate a large portion of the 802.11 WIFI certification tests using the official WIFI test bed equipment. We have condensed what would normally take several days of testing down to only a few hours and it’s fully automated. The results are stored in a csv file and then a script is used to move the data to an Excel spreadsheet. The spreadsheet compares the results of the runs with the WI-FI minimum requirements. If the run is below the minimum required WIFI value, it automatically flags it in red as a failure. If the run is above the minimum WI-FI value, it flags it in green with a pass. When the testing is complete, the entire WIFI test runs can be viewed on a single page with the actual run results and flagged as pass or fail. This is also very useful in that we can quickly determine if a new OS or driver build has impacted performance on the device in any way. We also save hours and hours of resource time as even a novice can start a IxChariot test run before they leave for the day and the results are waiting in the morning. Sweet... :)"
WiMax Testing

"One year back I was hired by a wireless company in Toronto to develop a fully automated Performance Testing Platform (PTP) for a WiMAX product using IxChariot. Multiple test labs have been created to implement different WiMAX test scenarios while IxChariot endpoints were deployed in each lab to push traffic of various shapes ranging from Data, VoIP and Video Streaming according to the standard Wimax Test Plan. The main purpose of the PTP project were to create a client-server application - a wrapper around IxChariot console - to configure a lab with a test case configuration, inject traffic using IxChariot and then publish/export the test results in HTML format on an Apache web server. On the server side PTP used Perl scripts to configure each equipment using Telnet and the IxChariot Perl Api to program the traffic through the lab. The scripts loaded their parameters (configuration of each test case) from XML files that were defined within the client - a java Swing GUI able to create new test cases, load and edit existent ones. Another important functionality of the GUI was to schedule the tests at various moments in time - as soon as possible or a calendar date. Once a test finished the client GUI inserted a raw in a "Finished Tasks" table where double-clicking on it would open an Internet Explorer window loading the web address were IxChariot exported the test result. During the project there were inherent challenges related to "infinite" execution time for tests that slowed down because wireless signal degraded for instance. In these circumastances I found IxChariot reliable and responsive to Api process termination requests. IxChariot Api proved to be extremely flexible and easy to work with, the documentation containing lots of examples of how to set each parameter of the test. As well the quality of the test results and the level of detail in the HTML exports of each test was a major success factor of the PTP project."

Before Ixia IxChariot we were at the mercy of our Telco Providers as it relates to keeping their feet to the fire on the SLA's that they have provided. Once we installed and configured Ixia IxChariot we immediately found out that we weren't getting the bandwidth that we were paying for.
When I called them to inform them of this they immediately asked what tool(s) that I was using to come to this conclusion. I sent them several exported reports from Ixia and they corrected the issues and we immediately saw an increase in bandwidth and actually had users call us with very positive feedback. Thanks to Ixia Chariot!"
